Train and play Football Soccer at Espanyol´s Academy
RCD Espanyol de Barcelona is one of the most ancient and important Football Soccer clubs in La Liga. In 1900 Angel Rodríguez founded the Sociedad Española de Football, a club of university students keen to play a new sport that had recently been imported from England.
He called it Sociedad Española de Football to differentiate it from Barcelona’s other clubs, which were dominated by foreign players. After several small name changes, the club became Real Club Deportivo Espanyol in 1912, when King Alfonso XIII bestowed the “royal” title upon the club. In 1901 RCD Espanyol won the Macaya Cup.
In 1929, the team won its first Spanish Cup, a title it would win again in 1940, in 2000, during the celebration of its founding, and in 2006. In 1988, the club was the UEFA Cup runner-up. In May 2007 achieves again to play the Final UEFA Cup against Sevilla FC.
